Baton Rouge, LA (Future150) -- LSU continues to do good things on the recruiting trail. On Saturday, the Tigers received a commitment from 2016 University (LA) point guard Skylar Mays.
Mays, who is from Baton Rouge, says that proximity to home played a big part in his decision to make his early pledge to Johnny Jones.
"I already go to school on campus, so I've always been comfortable with LSU and the nature of LSU sports," Mays told Future150.com. "Plus, my parents told me that they want me to play at a school close to home so theu can watch me play at the collegiate level."
LSU was the first (and only) school to offer Mays a scholarship last summer. The 6-foot-1 distributor has had them high ever since.
Mays hopes to continue to push the tempo for Jones when he arrives in college.
"They like to run. It looks like Coach Jones is looking for athletic wings who like to get up and down the floor, like Jarell Martin and Ben Simmons. I love to play in a run-and-gun style," he explained.
Mays will be the perfect player to get the ball to other offensive threats. The unselfish point guard has shown the ability to push the ball and control the tempo of the game, while facilitating for his teammates.
Mays is the Tigers' first commitment for 2016; they also have Ben Simmons onboard for 2015.
