Orlando, FL (Future150) -- 2019 combo-forward C.J. Walker has been one of the breakout performers of the fall camp season, and had considerable buzz heading into the high school campaign, and for good reason. The 6-foot-8, 175 pound prospect has begun to add perimeter skills to his game, and now projects as a potential matchup nightmare at the four, if not a jumbo wing.
The sophomore credits a good amount of his development to his transfer to Orlando Christian Prep, where the staff has begun his transition to the perimeter.
“Last year I was playing on the block a lot and since I’ve gotten to OCP ,coach has put me out on the perimeter a lot. What has helped me is one-on-one training for sure, and I feel like I’ve gotten a lot better facing up and more skilled scoring on the post with things like reverse pivots and stuff,” Walker said of his game.
Assuming he continues to develop, it’s more than likely that Walker will end up playing small forward at the next level, and will be able to be used in a variety of ways.
Because of that, Wake Forest, LSU, UCF, FSU, Louisville, UNF and Florida have all offered the combo forward.
It’s going to be interesting to see how much his recruitment changes this summer. Last year, Walker was playing with Nike Team Florida, a group that featured the likes of Vernon Carey and Balsa Koprivica. Now, Walker isn’t sure who he will suit up with. The potential of being featured more, combined with the ability to communicate directly with college coaches, should result in a number of new offers. But C.J. isn’t really focused on the recruitment process just yet.
“I want to maintain a double-double, play my hardest and play my role with this team, said Walker.
Orlando Christian Prep looks to be one of the more talented teams in the state of Florida, and Walker is a key piece in how far they can go. Look for him to make a debut in the next rankings update.
