Philadelphia, PA (Future150) -- The Adidas Select Series debuted at Competitive Edge Sports in suburban Philadelphia this weekend, featuring more than 30 teams between their 6th, 7th & 8th grade divisions. With teams participating from all over the Mid-Atlantic & Northeast states, it gave Future150 a great opportunity to find future stars in the middle school divisions.
Boston Product Shyheim Odom Emerges As Future Star
Suiting up for the both the Boston Bobcats 7th and 8th grade teams, 6'3", 175-pound 2022 wing Shyheim Odom had an outstanding Saturday at the Adidas Select League. Not only does he have an oustanding frame for such a young prospect, but he showed impressive and fluid skills from the wing. Early in his development, the Beaver Country Day School (MA) prospect shows ability to score on all three levels, and unselfishness on offense. Defensively, he also has tools to develop into a star as well.
New World (MD) With An Impressive 2021 Group
The most impressive team we watched on Saturday had to be the New World group, who cruised to easy victories on their opening day of action. Led by an offensively explosive backcourt of Brayon Freeman, Julius Ellerbe & Ya'qin Staton, no other team can match their combination of size, skill and/or ability level. While it's early, it's a safe bet to consider them the favorite in the 8th grade division to win it all come March during championship weekend in New York.
Dariq Miller-Whitehead Tracking As An Elite Wing In 2022 Class
After impressing us with his play during the MADE Hoops League last weekend in Massachusetts, 2022 wing Dariq Miller-Whitehead made the trip south to Philadelphia with the talented New York Jayhawks (NY) team this weekend. The 6'2" Newark, New Jersey native did not disappoint. He does a little bit of everything on the floor for his team, and it's clear that the game comes naturally to him. An explosive prospect, and one of the youngest prospects in the 2022 class, the sky is the limit for him.
Introducing Cameroon Native Henri Adiassa
It looks like the class of 2022 has a new big man emerging onto the national landscape with the arrival of 6'8" Cameroon native Henri Adiassa to the United States. A young looking paint protector and rim runner, it's clear that he's going to be a force to be reckoned with for his New World (MD) squad. Expect him to make some serious noise this coming AAU season with his play.
*Other Adidas Select League Standouts*
Quadir Brown, 2022 F, K-Low Elite (PA): The 5'11" wing carried his team on Saturday. In the first game of the day, he scored 30+ points in a loss to a solid 6th Man Warriors squad. While he has to play the post by necessity for his team, he's got natural wing skills as well, making him a dangerous inside-outside threat.
Travis Roberts, 2022 F, 6th Man Warriors (MD): We first got eyes on the 6'1" prospect at Hoop Group Jr. All-American Camp in August, where he was strictly a big man. Less than six months later, he's showing that he's making the transition to the wing, which bodes very well for his future. He's a talented scorer who can now play on all three levels.
Afamdi Achufusi, 2021 SG/SF, Mid Atlantic Select (MD): Maybe the most skilled wing in the 8th grade division is the 6'2" prospect. He knows how to make plays for his team, whether he's scoring, setting up teammates, or creating opportunities on the defensive end. Expect his stock to really take off in the coming months as he continues to develop his ball skills.
