Las Vegas, NV (Future150) -- 2014 Canyon Springs (Nev.) point guard Shaquile Carr had the urge to end his recruitment on Thursday night, but after talking with his mother, grandfather, and head coach, the 6-foot-1 point guard slept on it to reassure himself of his decision. Friday morning, he made his commitment to UTEP.

“I slept on it last night and when I woke up this morning, my gut was telling me to verbally commit,” Carr told Future150.com.

LMU and several Junior Colleges are involved with Carr, but UTEP’s loyalty and playing style paid off in the long run.

“The coaches and I have a really good connection. They stayed on me when I had a minor setback last year. The coaches showed me that they wanted me to really come to their school and run the team as a point guard.”

“They’re a run-and-gun team,” he said of UTEP’s favorable playing style.

Carr played with the Las Vegas Prospects on the AAU circuit. This past season, he showed the ability to play fast and excel in transition, but he also proved to be an efficient passer and distributor. He should be perfect in a high octane offense like Tim Floyd’s at UTEP.

Carr is a three-star according to Future150 and is ranked No. 107 in the class.
