La Porte, IN (Future150) -- After de-committing from Illinois, many expected 2013 La Lumiere (Ind.) point guard Jalen James to land at another high-major program. While he had that chance, the former Illini-commit decided to take a different route on Saturday.
James, a 6-foot-4 point guard, gave his commitment to San Jose State Saturday afternoon. He caught up with Future150 to talk about his commitment over the weekend.
“It’s a chance for me to do big things – start fresh with a new coach in a big conference and lead as a freshman,” James told Future150.com. “I think I can help build something special. It was just the perfect fit.”
As expected, James will be depended on early and often during his career. However, he is optimistic that he is the first of many talented players to head to SJSU.
“The coaches have said they want to build around me. They want me to help build the name for San Jose State and help shock the world. We are going to get some big-time players in the future.”
James chose San Jose State over George Mason, Cleveland State, Arkansas, and Western Kentucky, among others.
He is a three-star recruit according to Future150 and comes in at No. 110 in the 2013 Future150 rankings.
