New York, NY (Future150) -- Flash back to last season and Shane Rector was the third option on a solid St. Raymond's program behind Temple commit Daniel Dingle and Iowa State commit Nkwerem Okoro. The speedy combo guard was getting recruited by the majority of the Atlantic 10 among other programs but had yet to recieve serious high major interest.
After a strong showing his junior season, Rector decided that he would make the move to nearby South Kent Prep in Connecticut. South Kent had been the home for some talented players in recent years, most recently Ricky Ledo.
This season Rector and head coach Kelvin Jefferson have focused on working on his game and letting programs see that he can run point at a high level at all times. Mission accomplished it would seem, as Shane is averaging 15 points and 6 assists through his senior year,
He has been so effective in fact, that Rutgers offered him a scholarship just a couple of weeks ago, his first high major offer. Rector also had interest from Utah, Baylor, Texas, Arkansas, and Arizona State as well. In the end he decided to stay close to home and reward the Scarlet Knights for their belief in him.
Look for the Knights to turn their attention to athletic big man Demetrius Henry now that they have locked up Rector.
