Kingsport, TN (Future150) -- Approximately a year ago a lanky, awkward forward from the hills of Appalachia completely transformed his body and thereby began a serious recruitment cycle.
John Fulkerson figured out he needed better competition. To push himself he enrolled at The Christ School (NC). He began to see his body develop. His game was only weeks behind in its maturation.
Fulkerson is now a highly-coveted combo forward, nearing a handful of official visits in September. Charlotte hosted the emerging wing last Friday. South Carolina and Clemson are making a push.
Rice, Georgia, and Liberty all offered this month. Appalachian State and Gardner-Webb were the first to believe in him.
Where once there were none, now so many options exist.
Volunteer?
Ordinarily any athlete from Tennessee gushes at an opportunity to play for University of Tennessee. And though Fulkerson has both an offer and intends to visit he would not overextend himself by labeling them a favorite.
When pressed on his Tennessee interest Fulkerson demurred, but he did acknowledge he grew up loving the school. Of course there is a difference between fan worship and choosing a home, a launchpad for life.
“It would be nice to go there,” said Fulkerson.
Judging by a couple ten minute conversations Fulkerson does not have a strong favorite.
Tennessee is a guess. Maybe it is an astute guess. Time will tell.
“In two weeks I will start (scheduling official visits),” said Fulkerson.
Fulkerson might sign in November.
“If I find the right school.”
