Deptord, NJ (Future150) -- Recruiting junkies might remember the name Redemption Christian Academy (NY) from a couple of years ago for good reason. Angel Delgado put the program on the map thanks to his high-motor and ability to rebound everything under the sun. While the program surely missed him after he moved on The Patrick School (NJ) and then to Seton Hall last season, there is surely enough to be excited about moving forward.
The school brought in another high energy big man at the half way point of last season, and it seems as though he is ready to put the country on notice. Joel Mensah is every bit of 6-foot-10, and has a ton of upside.
"I've been here since January first, the game here in America is faster than the game in Ghanna, it's been an adjustment," he said.
Mensah had a great weekend at the Pangos All-East Frosh/Soph camp last weekend. He blocked shots, ran the floor, rebounded, and showed off a nice hook shot. It's shocking to think that he's only been playing basketball for 18 months. There is a ton of room for growth, and Mensah is focused on getting better now that he has acclimated to the American game.
"I'm trying to get more athletic and stronger, I try to model my game a little after Antonio Davis," said Mensah.
Part of the excitement surrounding Mensah is the fact that there is still so much room for growth. Bigs tend to develop later, and the fact that Mensah has only been playing for a short amount of time means that he is even earlier in his development than most players his age. Look for him to put the rest of the country on notice as soon as he hits the floor this season.
