Coney Island, NY (Future150) -- For several years now, 2016 prospect Rakym Felder has been on the national radar as a touted basketball player. He first gained a reputation as a high profile middle school prospect in New York City before moving to South Carolina and having an exceptional freshman season at Indian Land High School.
Now, the 6-foot-1 guard is back in the city and playing for national powerhouse Lincoln High School (NY), and it's helped his game tremendously.
"Coming back to Lincoln has really helped me develop my point guard game. I don't think I'm going to grow anymore, so I know I have to become a point guard for the college level," he recently told Future150 at the Spalding Hoophall Classic.
The work he has been putting in has shown, as he is now considered one of the best floor generals in the class. Up until this high school season, it was hard to tell if Felder was going to stagnate as a "tweener" prospect, caught between two perimeter positions. That isn't the case now, with improved ball skills and developing court vision.
At the Hoophall, he helped lead Lincoln to a 90-66 victory over Houston powerhouse Yates High School (TX). During that game, he blazed through the Yates defense using excellent speed and punishing drives to the rim. He also found his teammates in good spots to score the basketball, impressing Future150 greatly.
Right now, he is beginning to hear from Clemson, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, South Carolina & Villanova. As he continues to improve his skills, expect interest to turn into scholarship offers.
