Orlando, FL (Future150) -- After taking a devastating blow last week when Donovan Mitchell elected to attend Louisville, the Providence Friars recovered nicely on Monday by landing one of the best rebounders in the country.
Oak Ridge (FL) and E1T1 big man Alex Owens gave his pledge to the program to start this week, giving the Friars a wide body for the future.
The 6-foot-8, 240-pound bruiser isn't the most athletic prospect, but he uses his frame to carve out positiion in the low block and is a vacuum for rebounds on both ends of the floor. He's also an inside threat in terms of scoring, where he is skilled using both hands around the rim.
While playing on the Nike EYBL circuit this spring and summer, he averaged 6.7 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. During his junior season, he put up very impressive numbers while playing alongside Antonio Blakeney, averaging 17 points and 15.3 rebounds per game.
He picked the Friars over Central Florida, Houston & Missouri. Currently, he is ranked as the #83 prospect in the country according to Future150 rankings.
