Tyler, TX (Future150) -- Championship Sunday in the Primetime Tournament had some big time performances. Not as many close games like Saturday had, but saw some big time performances nonethless.
We will start it off again with the Tyler Magic with their trio of 2018 players of post Kenneth Woods, and guards Chance Amie and Mike Donnell. Woods is an athletic post that is a high level rebounder on the offensive side and finishes around the rim well. Amie is a 6-foot-4 inch guard that does a little bit of everything on the court. Has the potential to be a dangerous player if everything clicks, but the raw talent that was displayed intrigued me enough to want to keep track of him this summer. Donell is a high volume shooter that plays with a high motor and facilitates well once he gets into the lane. Not a flashy player and is one of those kids that you won't notice have 15 points in a game. Donell has a very quiet game and was key to the Magic's championship in their bracket.
Going against the Magic on Sunday was Live Action and their 2017 point guard Courtnee Garcia and I know in the last article I mention high volume scoring, but this guy was the definition of that on Sunday. He put his team on his back with a thrity point performance and when they needed a three pointer at the end, he hit a pull up thirty foot shot before time expired. The lefty guard can score in bunches and has a good pull-up game in the midrange and three point line. Garcia is undersized at 5-foot-7 inches but scores on bigger guards due to a quick shot release.
Tyler Spurs Edward Wickware and Future150 top 20 underclassman alum Jacob Smith played a big role of the team's bracket championship. Wickware is a monster on the boards and has a very high motor while Smith displayed his versitality being able to bring the ball up the floor and score in the paint and on the perimeter.
The matchup between Athens Cuse and Morning Stars was my most entertaining game of the day as the matchup between Star's 2017 guard Stephen Bates and Cuse's 2017 guard Tyler Russell was good one to see. Bates shoots mainly three point jumpers but showed the ability to score off a floater in the paint. He plays smart and doesn't force shots which brought his team back for a victory. Russell is a athletic guard that is a problem in transition with an array of finishes in the paint. Can knock down the open jumper but prefers to attack the basket and take contact with the finish.
Younger Age Group Performances (5/6th grade division)
1. ABC Select Team Penny - Won each game by a margin over 30
2.Collin Lewis-ETX Spartans (2021) - guard that showed great shooting abilities
3.Tyson Berry-Dream Big Select (2021) - quick guard that played high level defense and showed great poise for a point guard under heavy guard pressure.
