Houston, TX (Future150) -- In the world of AAU basketball, everyone knows that if you make it to play on Sunday, your tournament was viewed as somewhat of a success. Teams and players playing on Sunday definitely look to raise their play to a different level and no one wants to go home without a championship.
Let's take a look at the top performers from Sunday at the PrimeTime Sports Southwest Regionals.
Dearon Tucker- PF, 2019, D1 Premier - Already holding an offer from Baylor, Tucker is 6-foot-9 inches and has more growing to do before it's all said and done. He is super long and raw, but shows flashes of his growing offensive skill set that every big man wants in his arsenal. He rebounds, runs the floor, and blocks shots extremely well. Weight and strength are things he needs to develop as he makes his way up the latter of his development, but the upside is there.
Deavon Stovall- SF, 2017, E.A.T. - Stovall was one of the more active players on both ends of the floor we saw over the weekend. He is a great rebounder from the wing position and knows how to finish once he grabs the offensive rebound. His athleticism and foot speed allow him to guard multiple positions on the floor. If you leave him open, he proved he can make shots. Solid overall performance on the weekend.
Alex Brown- CF, 2017, BC Flight - Brown has a great body even though he is undersized and considered a tweener. His heart and hustle make up for his lack of size and during pool play he went for a double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. He does it all for his team and his effort alone gives his team second chances after second chance. Every coach wants a player like him because you know exactly what he's going to give every time he's on the floor.
Trevic Atkins- PG, 2017, Louisiana Renegades - Atkins was one of the more electric point guards we saw. He has elite speed and quickness which made it almost impossible for his defender to stop. His ball handling skills and court vision gave his teammates easy looks in the half and full court settings. The 6-foot guard has a nice frame and bulk which allowed him to take contact and still finish at the rim. His team goes as he goes and they went well all weekend long.
Tristan Wright- PF, 2019, Team Future - Wright is built like a defensive end but skilled like a wing. He can score on all three levels, but mainly makes his living posting up smaller players. He showed good athleticism when running the court as well as rebounding. His versatility makes his upside very intriuging as he contines to get better. There is certainly upside to his game.
Antoine Hutchins- PF, 2019, Juscas Hoops - Hutchins was one of the true power forwards we saw all weekend long. He knows his role on his team and plays to his strengths and not his weaknesses. Every time down the floor, he would take his man to either the high post or the low block. His face-up game is solid but where he excelled was attacking his defender with his post moves. He was definitely one of the better finishers at the rim while taking contact.
Dayton Booker- PG, 2019, Gulf Coast Magic - Booker is super quick with the ball in his hands and has elite ball-handling skills. He made several defenders guarding him look silly when attacking on the fast break. He is a pass first point guard, knows how to run his team, and is an excellent on-ball defender. There really isn't much this small guard can't do with the ball in his hands.
Calvin Kornell Williams- PF, 2017, Louisiana Bulls - Williams was one of the more intriguing prospects we saw this past weekend. He is 6-foot-7 inches tall, has a 6'10" wingspan and is really athletic. Rebounding, blocking shots and finishing at the rim with big time dunks puts him as one of the best players we saw. Competitor would be the word that best describes his game, and his confidence is through the roof. He is definitely an underrated talent.
Jussie Davis- CF, 2019, Louisiana Renegades - Davis is a work horse that showed he can take a heavy load and carry his team to the top. This past weekend he showed his ability to score the ball around the rim, as well as be able to strech the floor and knock down the mid range jump shot on a consistant basis.
Gabe Tanella- SF, 2017, D1 Premier - Tanella was Mr. Energy all weekend long and never gave up on a play. He was attacking the rim from both the wing and in transistion. His athleticism makes him play bigger than his 6-foot-4 inch frame. If you leave him open his range stretches to the 3-point line. He was definitely the heart and soul of his team.
Cameron Tourney- SG, 2019, Playmakers - Tourney is a guard that can flat out score the ball on all levels. He displayed his ability to shoot the ball over the weekend by knocking down the mid range and 3 point jump shot. He also showed that he is a deadly player when he comes off screens because he uses his body so well and knows how to keep defenders between him and the ball.
Saivon Johnson- GF, 2019, Beast Elite - Johnson is kid with good size and skill and because of that he was able to show his versatilty as a guard foward type. He has a soft touch when he uses his face-up game and because he puts the ball on floor so well for his size, he can be hard to stop when he is in attack mode.
Trey Savara- CF, 2021, TDT - A young and energtic foward that showed that defencs wins games. This past weekend he had several steals on loose balls, as well as blocks when players attacked the rim. He had a couple games where he played solid defense and because of it, helped his team get off to big game leads.
Ketran Jackson- GF, 2020, Team Duke - He had a solid weekend displaying his shooting ability and the ability to play inside out, which made it hard for him to be guarded because he is so versatile. He can play off the ball just as well as he plays on it ,and still makes him and his team tough to play against.
J'arrius Rankin- CF, 2020, The Warriors - Rankin is a skilled and powerful foward that showed that he can score the ball in so many ways. This past weekend he proved that he can score inside and out. He had a solid weekend of making great plays where his team needed him to, and once he gets going he is hard to stop because he is such a physical player.
Julien Smith- PG, 2020, Nike D1 Premier - Smith is a smart and crafty lead guard that plays his role well and knows how to run his team and get everybody involved. Over the weekend, he had a couple games where in the first half he did more of getting everybody involved in the game, but when his team called on him to bring in much needed scoring ability, he brought it in bunches.
