Primetime Nationals: 14U Division - Day 1 Recap

Dallas, TX (Future150) -- Day One of the 2014 Primetime Sports Nationals kicked off Thursday with the 8th Grade Division taking center stage in Dallas, Texas. Jr.Future150 was out looking for some of the top talent in the tournament. Here are the players that stood out during the first two games of pool play games at Swisher Courts:

Isaac Moore- (2018 SF, Acadiana Stars) He is a long and wiry athlete who likes to score from the mid range. He is a great rebounder on both ends of the floor and loves starting the fastbreak after he gets a rebound. He showed that he can knock down the open three-ball as well. He might be one of the best finishers we saw today. Even though his team has him playing inside, he definitely has the guard skills to both play inside and out.

Darrell SImpson-(2018 PF, Texas Select) At 6-foot-7 inches and 270 pounds, Simpson was almost unstoppable today in the low post. He was rebounding the ball on the offensive end and scoring at will. There was nobody on the court that could match his size or stop him. He showed good footwork which is something you can tell he has been working on since we last saw him in Orlando at AAU Nationals. At this level of play he is a man playing against boys.

Wayne Toussant -(2018 CG, Iberville Ballers) He is a big time scorer who scored 17 points in his first pool play game. He can score on all three levels and looks good while doing it. He loves to score in transition and he might be one of the best on-ball defenders we saw in the morning session. You have to love his versaitilty on the floor.

Herb Thomas - (2018 PG, Iberville Ballers) At 5-foot-6 inches, he might be small in size but his heart is something that can't be measured. His will to win on both ends of the floor stood out today.  He did it all for his team. His court vision both in transition and the half court made his teammates better. He proved that he can score on all three levels as well. One word that describes this player to a tee is "winner".

Darren Woodson -(2018 PG, ESS Cougars) He is a scoring point guard who can score in bunches. He has a great first step off the dribble and can get anywhere on the floor he chooses. His best attribute might be his craftiness around the rim when attacking. He has good court vision and has the ability to affect the outcome of the game. At 6-feet tall he has the size to play the position effectively.

Steven Sameuls -(2018 CG, Red River Warriors) A 6-foot-4 inche tall, super long and a wiry prospect who can play all 5 positions on the floor. He was playing the point guard today making plays for his teammates. He uses his length to his advantage when attacking the rim and rebounding. If he continues to develop his game at the guard position, he could end up a 6-foot-6 inch PG who can score the rock. Tons of upside.

Ja'Quan Tillis -(2018 PG, Texas Showtime) Tillis is an electric player who makes all the right passes. He has a great first step when attacking the defense off the bounce. He does a great job of getting into the lane and creating opportunities for his teammates, whether it's a drop off to a big or an opposite skip pass for a three- ball. His relentless pressure on the ball created a ton of easy baskets as his team as they won in easy fashion. Sparkplug!

Phillip Baker-(2018 PF, Native Heat) is a bruiser on the floor. At 6-foot-4 inches and 220 pounds, he was imposing his will on his defenders scoring in the low block anytime he chose to. He showed nice footwork and the ability to rebound the ball on both ends, especially the defensive end. I think at one point he got the rebound on 8 consecutive trips. As his skill catches up to his size, look for his game to go to the next level.

Stetson Roubedeaux- (2018 PG, Native Nation) is a crafty point guard who uses the dribble to make space for his shot.  He has good transition vision and knows how to finish when attacking the rim.  He made several 3-point bombs in the half court set. You can just tell he knows how to play the game the right way. High basketball IQ and very coachable. He scored 25 points and racked up 5 assists in his game today.

Jaird Chamberlain- (2018 SF, Airmax Elite) is a combination forward who has the size and versatility to play both forward positions. He can score both inside and out. He was knocking down shots out to 18 feet with regularity. His best attribute might be his ability to take advantage of smaller players and punish them in the post area. He might of been the best finisher we saw today. Lots of upside to his game.
