Sunday at the Texas Tornado and MI3 Center in Houston young guns were slinging it. Shooters were only outnumbered by the primary PG's, of which there were a few elite.
There were several competitive championship games that were decided by one or two possessions.
Here are the top performers for Sunday in Houston.
Logan Greathouse- SG, 2019 Mustangs: Greathouse is a fundamental player and a long range sniper who loves coming off screens and knocking down shots. He's extremely aggressive when attacking the basket. For a player his age, he is very vocal and a team leader on the floor. At one point during pool play, he scored eight straight points, which gave his team a lead they would not relinquish. "Heart" and "competitor" who be two words that describe his game the best.
Keon Jones- PG, 2020 Houston Fast Breakers: Jones is a smooth lefty with the ball in his hands. He showed tremendous feel and despite his size he never got rattled when the opposing team was applying pressure. He has elite court vision in both the half and full court. If left open he can knock down the 3 ball. Jones is like having a coach on the floor at all times.
Saivon Johnson- PF, 2019 Houston Fast Breakers: Johnson was one of the better forwards we saw this past week. His ability to rebound the ball on both ends and score put-backs kept his team in games. He runs the floor like a guard and is a good athlete. His post moves off the dribble are advanced for a player his age. As he continues to grow look for him to make a move to the wing or becoming a face up four man.
Ethan Dempsey- SF, 2021 EMC Elite: Dempsey is a long, wiry and a good athlete. He plays both inside and out for his team. He loves to score on the fast break and was one of the better finishers we saw in the 2021 class. His length and quickness gives him the ability to block shot and guard smaller players. As he gets stronger, look for his game to go to the next level.
Koy Glover- PG, 2021 HK Express: Glover is a pass first point guard who makes all of this teammates better especially in transition. He has long arms and handles the ball well. His mere presence on the floor makes his team better due to his defense and offense. The more aggressive he becomes the better his team will succeed. Tons of upside to this young prospect.
Grant Comeaux PG, 2021 CutTheNets: Comeaux is a shooter that can take it to the basket and score effectively on floaters. He is a solid passer as well when he is in transition as he looks up the floor finds the open man.
Joshua Taylor CG, 2021 Zero Gravity: Taylor has great size for a guard as he is big enough to protect the ball when he dribbles under pressure and when he is attacking the basket. His lateral quickness needs improvement but still works to cut the ball handler off when he is on defense.
Mikey Galoegos PG 2021, Zero Gravity: Galoegos has great control of the ball. He uses the spin move to create space for himself on the drive and is a good off the dribble shooter from 15 ft.
Delvin Jones C, 2021 Houston Fastbreakers: Jones was a beast in the low block. Has great footwork for a kid his age and can adjust his shot in mid air. Needs to work on his handles more but showed a lot of potential in his game against Zero Gravity.
Kenneth Glenn PG, 2021 Houston Fastbreakers: Glenn is a shifty guard that took over in the second half of his team's game with 10 points. Glenn pushed the lead to eight points in the final two minutes with a floater and a contested layup. Tough guard that came in the clutch for the Fastbreakers.
Isiah Babolola, PF, 2019 Texas Inferno: Babolola has high major potential. A high motor forward that is versatile on defense. Can guard the 1-4 and a player that generates a lot if steals when put in the front of a press.
David Bradley, PG, 2020 Texas Inferno: Bradley has a great IQ and knows how to score the ball in multiple ways. He is very effective in the half court and knows how to use ball-screen situations to help his teammates.
Kyle Kosub, Wing, Texas Inferno: Kosub is a knock-down shooter and knows how to force defenders to chase him of ball screens. He is a kid that has a nice frame with good height and Kosub is not done growing. Expect to hear a lot about him in the near future.
Nicholas Hill, PF/C, Elevation Blue: Hill is a big bodied forward who knows how to use his body when he's on the court. He runs the floor well and makes his living on offensive rebounds and put backs. He loves the screen and roll game with his point guard where he gets easy baskets in bunches. Don't get in his way when he is attacking the basket or you might end up on your behind.
Jaxon Olvera, PG, EMC Elite: Jaxon is a very aggressive player on both ends of the floor. He knows how to run his team and bring a lot of energy as the PG. Olvera handles the ball very well and knows how to score in different ways. Defensively he is like a dog on the ball...never gives up on play.
