Dallas, TX (Future150) -- 2016 Texas Lightning wing Devontae Patterson emerged as a prospect in the 17U field on Saturday afternoon at the 2014 PrimeTime Sports Nationals. Here's a look at what other prospects caught our eye in bracket play.
Devontae Patterson, 2016 SF, Texas Lightning: Maybe the best surprise of the day in 17U action was the rising junior, who is a 6-foot-5 beast in the paint. He rebounds extremely well and proved he can finish around the rim as well. On the perimeter, he shows the ability to step out and potentially knock down long jump shots consistently with more development. Intriguing prospect.
Darrius Canty, 2014 SF, COG Elite: The strong-bodied 6-foot-5 wing is an unsigned senior looking for a home, which bodes well for any schools in Michigan looking for a late signee. He uses his frame to get to the basket and finish plays and can handle the ball for stretches as well.
Kaelin Jackson-Goldwire, 2014 SF, Anthony Goldwire Elite: Again it was the 6-foot-6 wing who stood out for his team in their win this afternoon. It's just too hard for opposing defenses to stop the above-the-rim athlete, who has a world of upside.
Javon Lawrence, 2016 PF, COG Elite: The 6-foot-5 forward has a long way to go in terms of offensive skill and strength, but he is an intriguing forward based on his abilty to use his length as a capable shot-blocker and overall defender. Look for him to make strides this winter as a more complete player.
Xzavier Jenkins, 2015 PG, 3D Blue Devils: The 5-foot-9 speedster is the engine that makes his 3D Blue Devils team go. While he can be erratic at times with his shot selection, when he is running his team, he does a very good job. He has good court vision and is talented at finding holes in the defense.
Kourtland Goldwire, 2014 CF, Goldwire Elite: The defensive minded forward showcased his full game on Saturday, stepping out and knocking down a couple of threes. He also did a good job of protecting the rim and getting to the basket off the dribble. It will be interesting to see how he develops over the next couple of years.
Kashus Lyons, 2016 CG, Abilene Magic: Lyons stepped in off the bench and instantly provided a much needed spark for his team on the offensive end. He shot the ball very well and created scoring opportunities for his teammates and himself. He has good vision and is a solid passer as well.
Tyler Nsekpong, 2015 CG, Texas Gators: Nsekpong was very aggressive in his game Saturday afternoon, getting to the rim with ease. He also ran the offense at times and made the correct decision with the ball much more often than not. He is a big guard who was used in both positions and looked comfortable either as the lead guard or off the ball.
Quentin Childs, 2015 PG, Georgia Bengals: The unquestioned leader of his team, Childs importance to this squad cannot be overstated. He set his teammates up for open jumpers and was again relentless in attacking the basket. D2 and NAIA schools looking for a leader who can run the offense and take care of the ball really need to zero in on him.
Torrey Williams, 2015 SF, 3-D Blue Devils: Another long and athletic wing whos calling card is versatility, Williams was able to take his man off the dribble or post smaller defenders when the opportunity presented itself. He uses his length well on the defensive end, trying to play the passing lanes and causing turnovers. He is also an underrated passer.
