Houston, TX (Future150) -- Future150 hit the road for the 7th straight weekend evaluating players all over the country. This weekend we are back in the state of Texas at the Primetime Sports Hoop Jam Fest in Houston. Primestime Sports is known as one of the best tournaments for youth talent in the Southwest.
On day 1 the Future150 staff was out in full force looking for potential college players in the 17U-12U age divisions. Let's take a look at the players who stood out the most during Pool Play of the tournament.
Day 1 Top Performers:
The morning started off kinda of slow and as the player started to find there rhythm so did 2016 SG Fintan Collins. Once he got it going, he was pretty much unstoppable. He was the most effective when attacking the rim in the half court and in transition. He scored 26 points and had 3 dunks that showed off that he was one of the best athletes in the tournament. Collins has the ability to play at the next level.
One of the better point guards we saw today was 2020 Bryce Jackson of Dynasty Basketball Club. At 5-foot-10 inches and 160 pounds, Jackson has the body and skill set to impose his will upon his defenders. He attacked the lane at will and was finishing through contact. His feel for the game at such a young age was his most impressive attribute. Team leader.
When you talk about high volume scorers look no further than 2017 PG Justin Moore. He had the highest scoring total in a game at 30 points and made it look easy while doing it. He has a great first step and loves breaking down the defense of the dribble. If he's not scoring he is getting his teammates easy shots. Moore's best attribute on the day was not his scoring it was his ability to lead his team to victory when the game got close.
There were a few big men that stood out today and 2019 PF Noah Smith of Elevation Skills Sports was one of them. He is a good rebounder with a developing skill set that has flash of greatness. He can run the floor and is a good rebounder on both ends. As his skill set increase and his body gets stronger look for his game to go to the next level.
In todays game, players bring a new swagger to the game with trying to make the simple plays look flashy. 2019 PG Casey Davis of War Athletics definitely brings swagger to the floor. He has elite court vision and might of been the best overall point guard we saw today. He can score at will and loves making his teammates better. As his basketball IQ increase, so will his overall game. This is one player you love watching play.
Other Standouts:
Jack Witmer, PF 2021, Elite 2021: Jack displayed a high level skill set that was well beyond his years. He completed tough plays in traffic while finishing through contact. Most 2021 kids Jack’s size are not as mobile as he proved to be. He runs the floor well which put a ton of pressure on his defender. He also rebounded the ball and blocked shots. Great first day.
Josh Farrell, PG Elite 2021: Josh ran the point guard position to perfection at times. He’s super skilled and has a nice pace to his game. Josh used his high basketball IQ to create for himself and his teammates.
Brian Gordon, PG 2021, Gulf Coast Express: Brain showed elite ball-handling skills while leading his team to a double overtime win against Elite 2021. He played with poise that was beyond his years. He used a change of pace of the bounce to create space between him and the defender. Brain really excelled at getting by his defender and getting into the lane which created opportunities for his teammates.
Ben Postma, PF 2021, Xtreme: Ben is an athletic big who has a ton of upside. He played with a motor that was hard for opponents to match. He made plays down low, but also showed that he had enough skill to make plays from the wing position. His game is fluid and his ball handling skills are good enough to play multiple positions on the floor.
Kaden Borne, PG 2021, Xtreme: Kaden is a crafty point with a little flare to his game. His elite ball handling skills and ability to create for other makes him a fun player to watch. If you leave him open he proved he can knock down shots.
Coby Scott, PF 2018, Rim Shakers: Coby scored 28 points in a close loss. He’s not athletic but his skill kept him ahead of the defense. Coby shot the ball extremely well especially mid-range. As his ball handling and basketball IQ increases look for him to make the next step in his games.
