Houston, TX (Future150) -- Championship Sunday of the Primetime Sports Hoop Jam Fest in Houston had some players that stepped up and played big when it mattered most. Here are the top players on Sunday:
Tony Mullins 2016 G, Texas Inferno: Mullins was on fire for the Texas Inferno squad with over 30 points in his team's games on Sunday. A phenomenal passer, Mullins plays with a high basketball IQ. He was a force on the offensive end and a lockdown defender too. Mullins deserves to be dubbed the top guard on championship Sunday.
Evan Collier, 2017 C, Texas Inferno: Mullins' teammate was also giving teams problems in the post with his quick and powerful drop step. One of the most skilled big men in the tournament, Collier has the potential to be something special.
Jarek Thomas, 2018 F, Texas Exclusive Student Athletes:
Now let's shift to a high flying wing that had some Lebron-type fast blocks in 2018 forward Jarek Thomas. Thomas ran with the Texas Exclusive Student Athletes. Thomas was a nightmare on the defensive end, blocking many shots on the perimeter and in the paint. He also has solid handles and showcased an array of finishes in the lane.
Jestin Porter 2020 G, Houston Fastbreakers: Porter is a small guard that continually attacks the paint. With no fear of getting blocked, Porter found himself in the free throw lane a lot, finishing over the bigs with floaters.
Aaron Davis, 2019 F, Houston Cowboys: Davis was on a mission to win this weekend and he was a terror on the inside and out. Davis scored off put backs from rebounds, driving in the lane and scoring, and showcased his jumpshot that still needs work, but there is something to build on.
Dillon Todd, 2017 SG: Dillion had an extremely productive weekend at the Hoop Jam Fest. The Future150 camp alum is a high skilled shooter that has gotten better since the last time we watched him. He shot the ball well as usual but played the facilitator role well for his team. Dillon averaged 20 plus points in all his games and made strides which will help his recruitment out a lot.
Shae Shuraunoa, 2019 PG, WAR: Shae was one of the more unique prospects at the event. The 6-foot-1 PG, had size and skill that made him stand out. He used his size and ball-handling skill to get in the lane and finish acrobatic layups. Shae also plays with a motor on both ends of the floor that allows him to put pressure on the defense with him always being in attack mode. That same motor is used on defense to make it hard on his opponent to make plays. His size also allows him to be a good rebounder from the guard position.
Kevin Dawson, 2017 SG, BC Flight: Kevin was one of the better scorers at the Primetime event. He poured in 25 points in a close win against a talented West Houston Select team. He plays with a solid pace to his game that is real hard to speed up. Though he’s more of a shooting guard his solid ball-handling skill and passing ability will easily allow him to slide over and play the lead guard position.
AJ Gonzalez, 2017 SF, West Houston Select: AJ was Mr. Intangible for his talented West Houston Select team. He always seems to be at the right place at the right time whether it was for rebounds, steals, or open shots. AJ is the type of player that does everything that does not show up on the stat sheet but leads to wins.
Jonah Oliver, 2017 SG, BC Flight: Jonah shot the ball extremely well against the West Houston Select in the final game. His back to back three’s put his opponent in a tough position to recover. His release is super quick so he doesn’t need much time or space to get his picture perfect shot off.
