Burbank, CA (Future150) -- The state of California has been known for producing quality point guards. Jason Kidd, Baron Davis, Gilbert Arenas, and Darren Collison are just a few of the talented floor generals who have made a name for themselves as high school stars on the west coast over the past two decades.
As you read this, there are several more talented point guards in the high school ranks who are looking to make a name for themselves in just the Los Angeles area alone, not to mention the rest of the state.
The brighest young star who is creating quite a stir in the state is Providence High School freshman Marcus LoVett. The 6-foot, 155-pound point guard exploded onto the varsity scene at the Burbank, California catholic school, scorching the opposition for a blistering 31.7 points per game. After all the dust had settled on the season, he racked up an amazing 1,035 points, eclipsing the 40 point mark six times and once scoring over 50.
However, while his scoring exploits were incredible, he is much more than a player who can put the ball in the basket. He also averaged 4.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 3.1 steals in each contest. Perhaps the only aspect of his game more impressive than his stat line is his work ethic. He aspires to be the best player in the world, and works tirelessly in his pursuit. He has the skill set to become one of the top 10 players in his class, and he will take his act on the road this AAU season to prove he belongs among the nation's elite players for his age level.
His ball handling, court vision, and explosiveness are all traits that have molded former California high schools legends like Jason Kidd and Baron Davis, and according to Ballislife, he could be the best point guard prospect from the West Coast since Davis dominated at Crossroads School many years ago.
Marcus LoVett not only has the name of the star, but he also has the game to match. Look for him to make a big move in the near future as he fights for the number 1 spot in the country.
