Birmingham, AL (Future150) -- One of the best pure scorers the Future150 staff saw during the camp series was 2016 Central Park Christian (Ala.) guard PJ Grooms.
The 6-foot-4 guard showed a great sense of understanding the game, as well as the ability to score on all three levels. He thinks there is more to his game, though.
“I am strong and tall for my position as a point guard,” he described to Future150.com. “My IQ for the game is extremely high, and I can shoot the ball.”
As of right now, Grooms projects to be one of the better prospects to emerge from Alabama in his class. That is why South Alabama, UAB, and Cornell have all expressed early interest, and Clemson is having preliminary discussions with his father.
At Central Park Christian, the basketball team does not participate in the AHSAA playoffs. Instead, they compete in the NACA, a national schedule for Christian schools. With high level competition and games, Grooms has high hopes for the upcoming season.
“I want to get my school back on track and winning the NACA championship, and I would like to average 20 points and eight assists.”
“I also want to improve into not only a top-ranked player in the state, but in the nation as well. I want to raise the stock of my recruitment.”
After being named to the Future150 All-American list, Grooms’ confidence is at an all-time high. Expect that to carry over into the season.
“That just makes me want to work harder and become an even better player.”
