Pittsburgh, PA (Future150) -- There were a lot of questions surrounding Mustapha Heron after his move from Wilbraham & Monson (MA) to Sacred Heart (CT). Why would he leave a powerhouse program? What was the next move? How would affect his recruitment?
Thursday afternoon, one of those questions was answered when the talented guard chose to end his recruitment early and commit to the Pittsburgh Panthers. So what is Jamie Dixon and Pitt getting in the sophomore guard? Someone who can defend multiple positions, can get to the rim, and is a great play maker. Heron has been considered a unique prospect for a while now and his recruitment reflected that.
At 6-foot-5 and powerfully built, he has the size to guard all three perimeter positions. He has good vision but is also a threat to score the rock as well. It is worth noting that Heron’s father has ties to the Pittsburgh staff, playing professional ball in Poland with assistant Barry Rohrssen.
His skill set should make him a great fit for the Panthers no matter what position he ultimately plays down the road. Schools such as UCLA, Temple, Penn, Connecticut, Maryland, Kansas State, Miami (FL), Kansas, Vanderbilt, and Cincinnati were all in pursuit of the talented guard who also suited up at the Team USA basketball mini-camp earlier this fall.
Jamie Dixon and company have gotten off to a great start in the class of 2016, and by adding Heron they have added a potential cornerstone to their program.
