WHEELING, WV (Future150) -- With the spotlight Saturday on Wheeling Park and the Cancer Research Classic, 2016 F Phil Bledsoe put in one of the top performances of the weekend, going for 29 points and 17 rebounds and nearly leading his team to an upset win over Neumann-Goretti. Bledsoe’s 17 rebounds almost earned him a spot in the CRC record book finishing one board shy of the mark held by Daniel Stewart, which was set in 2008.
“Our offense is like four out, one in, work the ball into me and kick it back out,” the junior said about him and his teams’ performance. “My teammates were doing a good job of getting me the ball. It was a nice experience, getting to play against some different competition.” the junior said.
With his breakout performance on Saturday, Bledsoe will likely see more college coaches in his future, but for now the list is simply three schools.
“I have an offer from Navy,” Bledsoe said when asked about schools interested in the 6-foot-8 junior. “Cornell has contacted me, and Army has contacted me.”
While he continues to shine, the West Virginia-native is still refining parts of his game, like ball handling and his mid-range jumpshot.
With that being said, this was not the first time Bledsoe had put up major numbers this season, as he is averaging a double-double on the year with 24 points and 15 rebounds. As for the new found success, the method to the madness is simple.
“I just put a whole lot of work in (during) the offseason, and it’s starting to pay off,” Bledsoe told Future150.
