Whiteville, NC (Future150) -- Shaun Kirk recently made a pretty big decision when he decided to stay in the class of 2015 rather than reclassifying into 2016.
Now Kirk has made an even bigger decision, this one comes in the form of choosing where he will play college basketball at for the next few years of his life, talk about pressure. Well that pressure now seems to be over with in the life and basketball career of Kirk as he announced Monday evening that he will be playing for Mark Gotfried and the NC State Wolfpack.
UPDATE: Steve Boone of GMR Scouting revealed that Shaun Kirk earned a Kentucky offer at 1 A.M. Eastern Tuesday morning. He is still unsigned, but verbally committed to North Carolina State.
Now the sting of losing Brandon Ingram to another in-state rival (Duke) should start to wear off of the NC State fan base, as Kirk may not be as highly regarded now but is a very intriguing prospect with a high ceiling and will no doubt be a spectacular multi-year guy. Kirk's commitment also comes not long after G/F Trevor Lacey decided to forgo his Senior season and take his talents to the NBA.
This could also possibly play into the effect of NC State's chances with 2016 uber talented PG Dennis Smith, as Kirk and Smith are teammates on Team Loaded and NC State already seems to be on very good terms with Smith now at this point in his recruitment.
Kirk is a true wing at 6'6, he is very bouncy and excels when it comes to the title of scoring at all three levels. He can get in the paint with his explosiveness and will always try his best to finish with a ferocious dunk. He is very capable of knocking down the long ball and pulling up & knocking down a mid-range jumper. He will add immediate depth and raw talent to the roster at NC State next year and with some good coaching and polish could be an ACC 1st team guy within a couple seasons. Shaun is just one of those guys that will be fun to watch no matter what he's doing.
The Whiteville, NC native is regarded as a 3 or 4 star prospect by most recruiting services and also held offers from Auburn, Baylor, California, Charlotte, and VCU. He also took a visit to Charlotte very recently.
At the end of the day NC State seems to be where he belonged, the decision was a perfect scenario for both parties and will pay dividends for both as well. Cheer up Wolfpack fans, things won't be so bad in Raleigh with this guy suiting up in red and white.
