Jersey City, NJ (Future150) -- The class of 2020 in the tri-state area may only be a couple of months into their high school careers, but it's already shaping up to be a very strong one.
As usual, a couple of New York natives have crossed the border to play at one of the New Jersey powerhouse programs. One of which is The Patrick School's Quaran McPherson.
The 6-foot-3 combo guard is playing both Varsity and JV this season, an experience that McPherson believes will only benefit him in the long run.
"We went to City of Palms a couple of weeks ago and I didn't get the chance to play. It was a learning experience for me though, With the varsity I'm around a lot of really talented guys and it helps my game," said McPherson.
Despite college coaches not being able to contact him directly, the recruiting process has already begun for the talented swingman. St. John's has extended an offer, while Minnesota has begun to show interest. Neither of which is super surprising given that The Red Storm has focused on the younger classes and The Golden Gophers have New York City ties through assistant Kimani Young.
But because it's so early, McPherson isn't focused on that front just yet. He is trying to achieve a few things this year, first.
"I want to win the New Jersey TOC with varsity and not lose a game with the JV. Then I want to go into AAU season and just kill," he said.
It will be interesting to see what opportunites McPherson gets on varsity team this season, but it is clear that he is one of the better prospects in the tri-state area in his class.
