Future150 GM / Senior National Analyst. Covering high and middle school basketball.

Clovis, NM (Future150) -- John Dawson of Clovis High School in New Mexico plays high school basketball at a disadvantage. If he were suiting up for a big-time high school program in New York CIty, Los Angeles, or Chicago, every high school basketball junkie would know about the talented point guard.

Problem is, he doesn't. Tucked away in eastern New Mexico near the Texas border, John Dawson has been quietly earning lofty praise while excelling with his high school team, as well as his AAU program, BYC Elite.

As a junior this season, the 6'4", 190-pound point guard averaged roughly 18 points, nine assists, six rebounds and three steals for Clovis while leading them to a District 4-5A tournament championship and the Class 5A State Semi-Finals. For his efforts, he was chosen as a  2012 5A All-State First Team selection by the New Mexico High School Coaches Association.

As an upperclassman this season, the 2013 prospect knew his role well.

"As a captain, I tried to make sure morale was always up and that the players were motivated. I tried to get others involved and scored when i had to, and was always in charge of the offense."

The mature floor general's big junior season along with his college-ready frame have not gone unnoticed by elite college programs.

He already holds scholarship offers from Baylor, Texas Tech, UTEP, New Mexico State, Cal-Poly, Denver, Cal State-Bakersfield, Northern Colorado, Idaho State, Iona, Wyoming, Northern Arizona, Santa Clara, and Portland.

If we are talking about schools who are showing interest, the number grows exponentially.

Arizona, Ohio State, UCLA, Arkansas, San Diego State, South Carolina, UNLV, Virginia, Texas, Missouri, and many other schools are still involved for the point guard.

With his senior year of high school quickly approaching, his eyes are firmly set on one goal for next year.

"I want to work harder on what I can do to try and help our team win a state championship! My school hasn't had a state banner in 32 years and it would be a nice climax to my senior year of high school."

It sure would.

Future150 Camp Series is coming to Dallas, TX on September 29-30, 2012.  If your looking for "Exposure" this is the place to be.  National Rankings evaluations, Player profiles, and Camp rankings.
