Bronx, NY (Future150) -- New York City has always been a hotbed of talent, and while the area has yet to find a solution to the mass exodus of talent that is stopping the city from returning to its full potential, there are still plenty of division one players in the five boroughs.
Because of that, sometimes players fall through the cracks when it comes to the recruiting process. This year it appears that Wings Academy (NY) guard Boubacar Kamissoko is someone college coaches are missing the boat on.
A three-year starter at Wings, Kamissoko is one of the leaders on a team that has serious aspirations of winning a state title this year.
“My expectations for this season are for us to win a borough championship, then a city championship, and hopefully a state title as well,” he said.
Depending on who is on the floor with him, the 6-foot-2 guard can play either point guard or shooting guard. With a long wingspan and active feet, Kamissoko will guard the opposition’s best player more often than not this year; and gave 2018 G SaQuan Singleton trouble during their matchup at The CityLegendz Invitational earlier this month.
But Kamissoko is more than just an athletic defender. He rarely turns the ball over and makes smart plays with the ball in his hands. While he isn’t overly quick, he finds a way into the lane and is capable of finishing around defenders.
Perhaps his biggest improvement over the past year is his shooting and how he’s balanced distributing with scoring to start this season off. Despite his strengths, the recruiting process has yet to take off for the talented Bronx guard.
With Wings playing a strong schedule and getting to an out-of-state tournament over the holidays, it would appear that it’s only a matter of time before Kamissoko picks up his first division one offer, and low-major programs would be wise to start taking a look at him now; before Kamissoko stops being overlooked.
