HUNTSVILLE, AL (Future150) -- The elegant gliding of Kaleb Mack 2018 SF makes him an intriguing athlete. He possesses the innate strength to be a dominating high school power forward, but he clearly wants to mature into a small forward in the eyes of college recruiters. Judging by his Future150 Underclassmen Camp in Huntsville it is entirely possible.
“I think I did good on that, getting to the rim, making my own moves and stuff,” said Mack. “And just finishing through contact.”
Blasting beyond a defender is difficult at any level. Mack was able to complete the task repeatedly, using more than sheer strength. Mack is light on his feet and handles adeptly.
He kept his dribble low and swiftly swiveled into the paint.
“Every time I do I just give a little taste to everybody that is trying to guard me,” said Mack. “That is pretty much it. They are mostly just worried sometimes if I do that they are going to have to foul me because I am already in front of them.”
When Mack gets a defender on his hip he is in control. Strong shoulders allow him to stay the course.
A couple of weaknesses Mack self-identified are going right and shooting from the perimeter. His camp success revolved around getting to the basket and hauling down the rebounds.
During the camp Mack helped his four-on-four team to a third place finish.
Andrew Robison, Jordan Patton, Mack, and Phillip DesRosier joined together to whittle through the competition. Though they started off 12-4 the quartet won the next 12 straight. Astonishingly active, DesRosier routinely outrebounded bigger players.
Mack and Patton again teamed up for the fullcourt runs where Mack was asked to defend the opposition’s biggest player. Despite giving up a few inches every game, the 6’4” Mack proudly held his own.
Robison and Mack made the concluding All-Star game Sunday afternoon.
