Amherst, MA (Future150) -- UMass has a monster class coming in next season, one that answers their biggest need. With two top-150 prospects coming in, along with two highly rated 3-star recruits, it appears that the Minutemen will be challenging for an A-10 title again sooner rather than later:
DeJon Jarreau, #54 in Top-150, McDonogh 35 (LA): The crown jewel of this class, Jarreau should get an opportunity to start from day one with the departure of Jabarie Hinds. A big combo guard who is comfortable with the ball in his hands, Jarreau could be the Minutemen's next star.
Brison Gresham, #140 in Top-150, McDonogh 35 (LA): A high school teammate of Jarreau, Gresham will give the Minutemen another bruiser. His game fits well with Kellog's system and he could turn into a Cady Lalanne-type player in time.
Chris Baldwin, 3-star recruit, Notre Dame Prep (MA): Baldwin may take a little more time to develop offensively than the other recruits in this class. The equalizer will be Baldwin's motor. A big body who attacks the glass on both ends, Baldwin could average 7 or 8 boards if given a decent amount of time next year.
Unique McLean, 3-star recruit, Hoosac School (NY): McLean possesses other-worldly athleticism and can shoot the ball from beyond the arc. While he is a little undersized to play shooting guard, that's where his game fits best. This is just a case of a player picking the right school for his game. Look for McLean to develop into a talented scorer for the Minutemen
This is an athletically gifted group that does a number of things well. All four rebound the ball very well for their position, and there are a couple of scorers in Jarreau and McLean in this group too. Look for all four to have an impact from day one next season.
