Minneapolis, MN (Future150) -- Coach Richard Pitino has reeled in a top 25 recruiting class, and has done a great job bringing in home grown talent. These three incoming freshman should all make a steady impact on the program for the next few years to come.
Amir Coffey, #44 in top-150, Hopkins, MN: Coffey is the #1 prospect in the state off Minnesota, and will help the Gophers immediately with his unlimited range and underrated court vision. He has terrific size at 6'6 for a two guard and will bring versatility to the floor as well. Coffey has the skills to play the one through four. He should spend most of his time playing the two and three, but could see minutes at the point and at the four spot depending on certain situations. Overall, big time grab for Coach Pitino.
Eric Curry, #139 in top-150, Southwest Christian Academy, AR: Curry will bring an extremely high motor and great hustle to the table for Minnesota. His rebounding efforts are always solid, and he can run the floor and knows where to go for easy buckets. He is a strong finisher around the rim, but will need to develop some better most moves as he begins playing in the Big Ten. His strength and motor is what will let him see minutes during his freshman season.
Michael Hurt, 3-star prospect, John Marshall, MN: Another homegrown talent, Hurt isn't as nearly hyped or ranked as high as Coffey is but there is still some assets to his game that should help him be a solid D1 basketball player. Standing at 6'6 he has good size for the wing position, and is a solid all-around scorer. It will definitely take him a little more time to get adjusted to the grind and strength of D1 basketball, but the talent is certainly there for him to carve out a good role as a Gopher.
