Cullman, AL (Future150) -- Since he first stepped on to the floor to play his first varsity basketball game, 2015 Cullman (Ala.) guard Lawson Schaffer has expected to win. He has also been the focal point of his team’s offense, despite his youth.

Now a junior, Schaffer is beginning to take on a new role. He is becoming an all-around player that his team needs each night, doing different things.

The 6-foot guard started his season very well, as he scored 16 points in Cullman’s first game of the season. Despite his scoring abilities, he was able to facilitate and find hot shooters, as well as provide pressure on the defensive end.

“I would say my shooting, passing, high basketball IQ, defense, and hustle are the strengths to my game right now,” he told Future150.com.

While 16 points is nothing to be disappointed about, Schaffer has bigger expectations for himself as a player this season.

“I would like to break the school record for most points in a career and average around 25 points and seven assists this season. If I do that, I think I will gain more interest from colleges.”

To this point, Schaffer is fielding preliminary interest from Cornell and Jacksonville, as well as Alabama-Huntsville.

With a deep postseason run this year in the state of Alabama, he could see that number grow.

“I just want to have an outstanding year. I want to have one of the best records in school history, and, obviously, win a state championship,” he explained.

With Schaffer and an exceptional group of shooters leading the way, expect to hear Cullman as one of the top high school squads in the north Alabama area this winter.
