Huntsville, AL (Future150) -- While the game of basketball is evolving, seniority is still a valuable asset in the game. Very rarely do underclassmen have the experience needed to lead their team to victory. But Lamonte Turner’s situation is different.

Turner, a 6-foot-1 sophomore out of Sparkman High School (Madison, Ala.), plays on a team led with eight seniors. Nevertheless, he is making big strides and is a serious impact for his squad.

During the young season thus far, the point guard is averaging 13 points and five assists per game. His season continues to look bright, but Turner has big expectations for himself and his team.

“The season is going really well right now. I have to see what my team needs me to do each night, whether it is score, pass, or play defense, stuff like that,” he told Future150.com. “Ultimately, I would like to be the Alabama 6A Player of the Year and lead my team to a state championship. Sparkman has never won one.”

Turner has shown the ability to score and distribute to his teammates over the past year. Running with the Georgia Stars on the AAU circuit, he earned different comparisons to college and NBA players.

“I think I play a lot like Brandon Knight. We’re both shooting point guards and we’re the same size. I think we share a lot of the same qualities.”

Through his AAU and high school season, several schools have already noticed the youngster, with the majority coming from the SEC and ACC.

“Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn, UAB, Georgia, Georgia Tech, and Virginia Tech are some of the schools showing interest in me right now,” he said.

The sophomore holds early offers from Jacksonville, Mercer, and Kennesaw State.

Turner has already visited several schools, including Georgia Tech and UAB. While on an unofficial to Georgia Tech, he says the staff and players really stood out.

“When I went on my visit to Georgia Tech, they showed me a lot of love. So they are definitely sticking out right now,” he explained.

“Auburn is another. They are one of the few schools that have come to watch me so far this season. UAB has come, too.”

His family had to cancel a planned trip to Georgia, but Turner is planning on visiting the Bulldogs in the future. He says Auburn and Tennessee will also get visits soon.

With so many different schools pursuing him at this point, it is hard to keep things organized. However, when the time comes for him to make a decision, Turner has a few factors.

“I would like to play for a fast-paced team that depends on its point guard. I am also looking for a good academic school. I want to be an engineer. I’m good at math,” he laughed.

Stay tuned to Future150.com as Turner leads his squad throughout the season.
