Birmingham, AL (Future150) -- March is one of the best times of the year, especially for basketball. With high school state tournaments coming to a close and March Madness beginning for the college game, it truly is an exciting time.
The excitement came a day early for 2015 Sparkman (Ala.) point guard Lamonte Turner on Thursday, as he made a statement in the Alabama 6A state semi-finals.
Turner helped lead his Senators squad to the state championship game behind 27 points, including some clutch shots coming down the stretch. One school came away very impressed.
"Auburn offered Lamonte [Turner] tonight," D.J. Almonds, Turner's AAU coach, told Future150.com.
The Tigers become Turner's first high-major offer, as they join Jacksonville, Mercer, and Kennesaw State; Georgia, Georgia Tech, UAB, Alabama and others are also involved.
"It's overwhelming," Turner said regarding his new offer. "I like it, but at the same time I feel like I have to keep working to get more. It makes me even more hungry."
The 6-foot-1 sharpshooter has visited Auburn unofficially a few times already. There are some things he likes about the program, despite their misfortune the past few seasons.
"They play in the SEC. That's a nice conference and the competition is really high. They may be having a down year, but they always seem to recover."
Turner will lead Sparkman against Mountain Brook for the state championship Saturday night.
He is a three-star according to Future150.
