Springfield, MA (Future150) -- Coming out of the middle school ranks, Horace Spencer was considered to be one of the top players in his class and an impact freshman. After a couple of seasons where Spencer didn’t make quite the strides that scouts and coaches had hoped he would, Spencer decided that a change was in order.

Spencer left his Philadelphia roots behind, electing to enroll into a national powerhouse program Findlay Prep this season. So far it is safe to say the move has paid off, as Spencer has re-asserted himself as one of the top defensive big men in the class of 2015.

“It’s been crazy, my move from the city to the desert has been challenging. Going up against guys like Craig Victor has helped my game a lot and has made me a lot better,” Spencer said of his move to Findlay.

A few weeks ago Spencer was able to showcase how dominant he can be on the defensive end of the ball to a national audience at the Hoophall Classic. He was a force around the rim, grabbing rebounds and blocking shots. While his offensive game is still coming along, he showed that he can anchor a defense at the next level.

Schools such as West Virginia, Stanford, and UNLV have all shown varying amounts of interest, with WVU already extending an offer. There are other high-major programs currently tracking the athletic rim protector, but have yet to formally extend an offer his way.

Spencer has played for the New Jersey Gym Rats on the AAU circuit for years now, and this season won’t be any different. In a time where players are flipping teams almost constantly, Spencer has decided to continue on with the program that he initially played for when he first blew up as a rising freshman.

Look for him to have a major AAU season and pull down a lot more offers before it’s all said and done.
