North Platte, NE (Future150) -- Cameron Williams might not be a nationally known recruit right now, but he is working hard to change that fact. A 6’0" combo guard from Omaha, Nebraska, Cameron is making a huge statement this season at North Platte Community College (NE).
As a senior at Omaha South (NE) last season, Cameron put his skills on display and numerous colleges such as University of Nebraska-Omaha, University of Minnesota-Duluth, and more took notice. Williams averaged 17.2 points a game for South, and helped lead the Mavericks to a third place finish in the Nebraska state tournament. After finishing off a great high school career, he was named to the first-team All-Nebraska team.
As a freshman at North Platte Community College, Williams has not only cracked the starting line-up, he is a big time contributor for the 6th ranked team in the country.
“Cam has been huge for us this season. We kind of knew what he was going to bring us coming in and he has not disappointed for us. He is working hard to do things the right way. He is a great kid for us,“ NPCC Assistant Coach Nathan Wieseler shared with Future150.
Williams is currently averaging 12.0 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1.8 steals per game for the Knights.
“Cam is a dynamic player who can play both the 1 and the 2. He is excellent with the ball in his hands and he can score it from all three levels. He also does a great job at getting his teammates involved and he isn’t afraid to crash the boards. Overall, he is just a great kid who loves to work hard,” Future150 Analyst Adam Barnes added.
Cam obviously agrees.
“I am not one who puts a ton of emphasis on personal stats, but it does feel good to come in here and contribute right away. I am surrounded by great players and a great coaching staff who keep me focused on the long term vision of this program,” Cameron shared.
Williams knows that by going the JUCO route, his recruitment will not likely heat up until later in the year as most D1 schools target sophomores who can step in and contribute next year, and that is just fine with Williams.
“Right now I am just focused on becoming a better player. Every day that I step on the court I am working hard to make sure that I am better than I was the day before. There is plenty of time for me to find a school, right now I am focused on helping my team,” Williams added.
As of now, Williams is clearly focused on his development rather than his recruitment. With that being said, he does have a few things he is looking for in regards to his future decision.
“In regards to making a decision, location is not a factor to me. My main focus is for me to play at the highest level possible. I am also looking for a school that will provide me with a great education. I am looking at either going into culinary or business, but I have yet to officially decide what program I will choose. I just know that as long as I continue to work, things will take care of themselves.”
