Aurora, CO (Future150) -- On Saturday, Gonzaga head coach Mark Few landed his top priority in the class of 2014; Josh Perkins. The Zags had been hard after the point guard for quite some time, and had to fend off some powerful teams to land his services.
So what will the Zags get in their new lead guard? Perkins is a fantastic passer who plays with confidence. He sees the floor well at all times, allowing him to find teammates for easy buckets. He can also get to the rim and score it as well. At times Perkins falls in love with the home-run pass and turns it over, but when he's under control, few players pass it better than him.
"I love passing it, I love making my teammates better," Perkins said. He will have plenty of weapons around him barring anyone leaving early. By the time he hits campus Kyle Wiltjer will be eligible, Gary Bell and Kevin Pangos will be seniors, and Gerard Colman will be out on the wing.
In the end it was Gonzaga's loyalty that ultimately won Perkins over. UConn, Baylor, Minnesota, UCLA, and USC had all offered him and Kentucky was showing interest. Despite all of those schools, Perkins picked the Zags.
"You gotta love who loves you," Perkins said. That was a common quote from Perkins throughout the summer, and Gonzaga showed him plenty of love.
