Greensboro, NC (Future150) -- 2018 G/F Johnny Newman of Greensboro Day School in North Carolina, is starting to become a well known prospect in the 2018 class, especially in the North Carolina, South Carolina, & Virginia areas. Newman has been playing extremely well in the very early portion of the season.
"My defensive ability is something I really take pride upon, it's very important to me to shutdown my man," Newman told me. "On the other hand I feel like I bring a good amount of (versatility) to the floor. I can dribble, shoot, or pass it whenever you need me to."
A few schools are recognizing these traits in Newman and are starting to keep track and stay in touch with him more often than they have been lately.
"Wake Forest and Virginia are the two schools who have been on me the most recently," Newman said. "UNC-Charlotte has already offered, so I hear from them quite a bit as well."
"Overall, I really like Virginia's coaching staff, and the way they like to play. I feel like their (style of play) fits my game well," Newman said. "So Virginia is definitely a big school on my list."
Newman knows he still has a long way to go in the recruitment process being just a Sophomore, he has a dream school in mind that he would love to see start recruiting him in the future.
"Kentucky has always been a favorite of mine since I was nine, so they're a school I'm really looking for."
Johnny has certainly earned the college looks he's been getting, and he has the potential to get to that Kentucky level that he soughts after. Overall, his entire team at Greensboro Day should attract many coaches this year as they also have studs like 2017 CF JP Moorman, and 2018 SG Will Dillard on the roster.
"(As a team) we just want to go out and get better every game," Newman said. "We just want to live up to our potential, and prove our doubters wrong. If we go out and take care of business, we should be able to win another state championship."
Continue to follow along with Future150 as we track Johnny's potentially explosive Sophomore season and the rest of the Greensboro Day squad.
