Gadsden, AL (Future150) -- Since Jeff Garrett moved to Oldsmar Christian (Fla.) at the beginning of the school year, his recruitment has been very active.

Monday night, he took a step toward simmering things down, as he cut his list to five schools.

Alabama, Louisiana Tech, Murray State, Oregon State, and South Alabama remain in the mix for the 6-foot-7 forward.

“I’m going to visit these five schools,” he told Future150.com. “I hope to have my decision by the end of April.”

Louisiana Tech and Murray State have both been coming hard throughout the year for Garrett, but a childhood favorite could come in and sweep him up in the end.

Alabama recently offered Garret a scholarship. The staff monitored his play throughout the year, but they waited for an appropriate test score before extending the offer.

“It feels good to be offered by Alabama. To be from the state and getting an offer, it means a lot. I grew up an Alabama fan.”

Things could get more interesting in Garrett’s recruitment. After he cut his list, new Virginia Tech head coach Buzz Williams offered him a scholarship.

There are no favorites at this time, but Alabama could have the edge for now. It should be interesting to see how his recruitment plays out with the coaching carousel in full swing,

Stay tuned for more updates on the three-star prospect.
