High Point, NC (Future150) -- Not many high school teams can claim more than five division one prospects to their name at once, but Wesleyan Christian can, and it has made them a favorite in this year's NCISAA 3A North Carolina Division.
One of those college prospects is the man that runs the point for the loaded Trojan squad, junior JaQuel Richmond. The 6'0" speedster has multiple high majors calling his way, and he has a scheduled visit to one of them in the near future.
Richmond informed Future150.com that he currently holds offers from UNC-Charlotte, Old Dominion, Tennessee, Houston, and Wake Forest, with interest coming from Ohio State. Despite no offer from the Buckeyes, he has an unofficial visit set for December 8th.
He's heard the most, however, from a school in the ACC.
Richmond said Wake Forest calls "pretty much every day." But will he take his up-tempo play to Winston-Salem? It appears we'll have to wait, as he said he has no timetable regarding a decision.
Any one of these school's transition game would see a boost with Richmond's addition. The 2014 lead man consistently looks to push the ball, whether with the pass or dribble. He plays the game with good pace and has great ball control, allowing him to handle pressure and split defenders in ball screen situations.
Owning that lethal combination of vision and speed, Richmond can get to the paint and make the right pass or finish himself. His jump shot has steadily improved and his middle game is reliable, as he can score with pull up jumpers or with soft floaters in the lane.
The state of North Carolina is loaded with talented junior guards and Richmond is one of them who will be a priority for many schools moving forward.
