Philadelphia, PA (Future150) -- While walking around the Mary Kline Classic, it was easy to see that the event was about much more than just basketball.

Ja'Quan Newton saw it too. The talented lead guard even skipped out on attending the Pangos All-American Camp in order to play in the MKC. At the end of the day, Newton felt that it was more important to be part of something bigger than basketball than boost his national stock.

Not that his stock needs boosting. He is widely considered one of the top guards in the country. The #45 player in the 2014 Future150 rankings put on a show on Sunday night, as he finished a handful of absurd drives to the rim both over and through defenders.

Standing at 6-foot-3 and 175 pounds, Newton has great size for a point guard. It allows him to bully smaller guards and his speed allows him to get around forwards. "I try to get to the rim a lot and I'm a play maker," Newton said.

Right now, Ja'Quan is focused on getting better and preparing himself for the Nike Peach Jam next month. He is a leader for the talented Philadelphia based Team Final program who will try to upset the field and bring home the title.

As far as recruiting goes, Newton listed off offers from Minnesota, Temple, Xavier, Tennessee, Villanova, and Miami, while admitting he couldn't think of all of them.

"I'm looking for a school where I can play up-tempo, and play pick-and-roll. I want to play for a program that's a top-25 team," Newton said when asked what will go into making his college decision.

But for now, Newton will continue to get better. He has his eyes set on one goal; a Peach Jam title.
