New York, NY (Future150) -- Expectations are high for kids in the state of New York, as the city and community rotates around the game of basketball. Whether it is the Knicks or a high school game, New York is always hungry for basketball.

For years, young Jaquan Mckennon has felt the expectations surrounding him, and as for right now, the freshman has embraced the basketball power of New York.

Despite only being a 9th grader, Mckennon already has many colleges interested in him, including an area school: St. John’s.

“I am still completely wide open when it comes to the recruiting process, but I would say St. John’s is showing the most interest right now,” Mckennon explained. “It feels good to have any school interested in me, but I would seriously consider St. John’s because family means a lot to me. They could see me play in person.”

At 5-foot-9, Mckennon has the potential to be the next great NYC point guard. As most expect, he already holds the traits of a well-rounded team leader.

“I would say my strengths are shooting and passing. I also have a very high basketball IQ,” he began. “But my biggest weakness is my athleticism. But that can come.”

Many fans (including Mckennon) compare him to the likes of Chris Paul, citing the ability to run a team as similar things in their respective games.

In the end, Mckennon could become the prospect Paul was coming out of high school. After his freshman season, he averaged 24 points and eight assists.

In addition to the Johnnies, the St. Raymond’s star is also hearing from Rutgers, Iona, Iowa, Iowa State, Creighton, and UC-Riverside.
“I have already taken an unofficial visit to Rutgers, and I also went to Iona and St. John’s Midnight Madness this past year.”

On the AAU circuit, you will find Mckennon with one of New York’s most well-known organizations, New Heights.

“Like I said, I want to work on my athleticism on top of getting better every day in all my skills. Of course, my main goal is to win.”
