Springfield, MA (Future150) -- One of the big winners from the Spalding HoopHall Classic was Cushing Academy’s Jalen Adams. The 6-foot-3 combo guard led his team to the win thanks to a 32 point performance. He scored from all over the floor, burying a number of long jumpers and finishing around the rim using great body control.
In the Northeast, Adams has been lauded as the next high major player to come out of Cushing Academy (MA) and one of the top scorers in the region. Playing alongside Syracuse-bound Kaleb Joseph on both the AAU and prep circuit, Adams has had the opportunity to play both guard spots as well.
“I feel like my biggest strength right now is getting to the rim and creating for others, I’ve been working on my shot. I’ve just been getting up a lot of shots and trying to improve,” he said.
Adams also won the MVP of the prestigious National Prep School Invitational held at Rhode Island College in Providence this past weekend. He is having an absolutely monster junior campaign.
This spring he will take on a bigger role with the Mass Rivals, while last year’s team was led by Goodluck Okonoboh and Joseph, this year’s team will need Adams to step up if they want to have a dominant AAU season.
Adams will get more of an opportunity to be the lead guard when playing with the Rivals this year. For now he is focused on finishing the high school season on a high note and continuing to improve as a player.
Schools have already begun to take notice of his talent though, as UConn, URI, Providence, Minnesota, and Georgia Tech have all been on him for a decent amount of time. Kansas has recently entered the fray and extended an offer shortly following his standout performance at the HoopHall.
Look for more of the elite schools to take a long look at the talented New England native and throw their hats into the ring for his services sooner rather than later.
