New York, NY (Future150) --
Despite being just a freshman, Jalek Felton is already a big name in South Carolina. That’s what comes when you share a last name with a starting NBA point guard. Raymond Felton was a standout at North Carolina before becoming the starting guard for the New York Knicks. Now Jalek will look to follow in his uncle’s footsteps.
“It’s a blessing to have uncle Ray around, I learn a lot from him and it’s great being able to talk to him about the game and watch him play.” He said.
At 6-foot-3 with a solid frame, it’s easy to see some similarities in their games already. Felton is very quick and is comfortable either scoring the ball or distributing to his teammates. The standout freshman will look to have a major impact at Mullins (SC) this upcoming season.
At the Jim Couch Showcase in New York City, he proved that he could do just that, being one of the top guards in a group of nationally ranked players. He attacked the rim aggressively and showed off a decent jump shot as well.
The upside for Felton is high, while it remains it be seen if he ends up playing the point like his uncle or slides over to shooting guard, it appears that he will be a headache for his opponents. While he occasionally takes plays off defensively, it is clear he has all the tools to be a high major player.
While it is still incredibly early in the recruiting process, Jalek has begun to garner interest from some of the top programs in the country. Ohio State, South Carolina, Wichita State, Northwestern, and North Carolina have all shown varying interest according to the youngster.
While it’s far too early to say if he will end up at North Carolina like uncle Ray, it is clear that Jalek’s future is very bright.
