New York, NY (Future150) -- Splash City may be a new team on the UA circuit this season, but they have at least one Familiar face. Combo guard Jade Smith is running with Steph Curry’s squad, and looks poised to pick up a number of offers on his last year on the UA circuit.
He started the weekend off slow, but turned in a 16 point outing against Philly Pride and helped lead his team to a 3-1 record on the opening weekend.
"I do what the team needs me to do, I can play off the ball or as a point guard, I know I also have to improve my decision making if I am going to play point guard all of the time" he said of his game.
At 6-foot-4, he has the size to play either guard position and defend multiple positions as well. Right now, the biggest knock on him is his consistency. With this Splash City group still feeling each other out a bit, it will be interesting to see how much his numbers increase as the season goes on.
St. Mary's, SDSU, and Nevada have offered him; while Washington, Kansas, and Boise State have reached out as well. Cal was thought to be the leader for his services before his lead recruiter there joined the Wolfpack’s staff. Randy Bennett and company have used this season to make a big push though.
“St. Mary’s contacts me a lot, they’re working the hardest right now” said Smith.
While the Gaels may be working the hardest, only time will tell if they can pull out a commitment against what should become a growing list of suitors as this month continues. Helping Smith on that front is the fact that he’s a decent student as well. With that in mind, look for more programs to track this under-the-radar prospect in Indianapolis this weekend, and his offer list to grow.
