New York, NY (Future150) -- The state of Minnesota has put out a number of high-major prospects in recent years, and it appears that the class of 2017 will provide even more talent.
One of the more intriguing guards in the class both on a regional and national level is the son of former UConn star Khalid El-Amin. Starring at Hopkins, Ishmael El-Amin is forging a name for himself and proving that he is a high-major guard in his own right.
At 6-foot-2, 175 pounds, he has the skill to play either guard position and has a great feel for the game. What really makes El-Amin stand out is his shooting ability.
"I've worked really hard to get my shot where it is today, I feel like I can play either position and I'm working on my point guard skills," said El-Amin.
The fact that his father was a standout in the college ranks isn't lost on him either, as he tries to take what he can from his father. With UConn already involved in his recruitment, the idea that he could follow in his father's footsteps is an intriguing one.
"I've thought about it, and it would be cool to go to UConn, but I'm really more interested in what is going to be the best situation for me, if that's the best place for me when it comes time to make a decision, then great, but if not, I'm going to go to where I fit the best," he said.
Outside of the Huskies, Minnesota, Illinois, Georgetown, and Northern Iowa have been among the programs to show interest in him, while DePaul and Texas Tech recently pulled the trigger and offered him.
Playing with Net Gain Sports on the Under Armor circuit, El-Amin is gearing up for huge July. Look for him to pick up plenty of interest and a few more offers this month as he continues to showcase his scoring ability and high IQ.
