Washington, DC (Future150) -- Heading into Saturday, most thought it would be mostly quiet on the recruiting front for Georgetown basketball. The program and fanbase had its attention on rival Syracuse.
With that being said, when 2014 Charlottesville (Va.) Miller School forward Isaac Copeland gave his commitment to John Thompson III and the Hoyas, everyone was surprised - even the coaching staff.
"The coaches were really surprised and excited," he told Future150.com. "They really wanted me to go there, but they weren't expecting me to commit."
Copeland's visit didn't push him to the edge to give his verbal commitment to the Hoyas. Prior to Saturday, the 6-foot-9 forward had thoughts about his future with Georgetown.
"I already knew I wanted to [go to Georgetown]. I just had been waiting until I met with Coach Thompson to let him know."
Copeland has been one of the biggest risers this basketball season, as more and more schools entered the picture. Nevertheless, Georgetown prevailed in the end.
"I like everything about the school. They have a great academic program. I also have a great relationship with the coaches and I think I will fit well in their system," he explained.
The Garner Road standout was also considering NC State and Florida State, among others.
Copeland is a four-star and comes in at No. 59 in the 2014 Future150 rankings.
