Nashville, TN (Future150) -- Monday, November 13th, 2017 might become a date that gets remembered for a long time by Vanderbilt Commodores fans. In a press conference at Brentwood Academy in Nashville, star 2018 point guard Darius Garland chose to stay home, picking Vandy over the likes of Indiana, Kentucky & UCLA.
A top 20 prospect in the senior class, the 6'2" offensive stud will have the ball in his hands from day one in Nashville, and he may bring some help with him to campus. With four-star wing Aaron Nesmith already in the fold, attention now turns to five-star prospects Romeo Langford & Simi Shittu.
Let's start with Shittu, the 6'10" Canadian forward and top 10 prospect in the class. Originally scheduled to visit North Carolina last weekend, the Vermont Academy (VT) big man cancelled his visit, and has not rescheduled. Vanderbilt was already riding some very good momentum in his recruitment as the perceived leader. Now? All signs point to him becoming the next prospect to commit to head coach Bryce Drew.
Two days ago, another top 10 prospect in the class had good news for the Commodores as well, as New Albany (IN) 6'5" shooting guard Romeo Langford trimmed his list to three schools, including Indiana, Kansas & Vanderbilt. While it seems like Indiana is the team to beat for his services right now, don't rule out Coach Drew and company. It is clear that Garland is recruiting both Shittu & Langford. So what does it mean for Vandy fans?
Land two of the three and Vanderbilt has a top 10 class in the country. Land all three and they will contend for having the #1 class in America for the 2018 cycle.
So what does November 13th, 2017 mean for Commodores fans? At the very least, it's the day that hometown star Darius Garland decided to stay home. But it might mean much more, very soon.
