Huntsville, AL (Future150) -- One of the most impressive prospects to emerge from the 2017 this summer was Sparkman (AL) freshman Jamal Johnson.

The Future150 Camp alum first came onto the scene in 2012 at our Birmingham Camp, and made impressive strides over the past year as he grew into his body and game.

After a big 2013 summer playing on a loaded Birmingham Storm Elite AAU team, he backed up his solid play with a standout Future150 Elite 24 Camp performance in August.

Now, the 6-foot-4 guard is looking to make a transition to point guard as a high schooler. So far, it's been a seamless transition. The son of former NBA player Buck Johnson has some lofty goals for the current high school season.

"I want to win a state championship and win Mr. Basketball or Gatorade Player of the Year in Alabama," he recently told me.

His rise in national notoriety over the past several months has Auburn, Alabama, Clemson, Mississippi State, Murray State, Texas A&M, Tulane and Tulsa all showing considerable interest in the young talent.

So far, he has taken an unofficial visit to Alabama, and plans to take a trip to Mississippi State soon to take in a Bulldogs basketball game.

The combo guard admits that he is a big fan Duke, Kentucky and Louisville, but knows that interest and offers from those prestigious programs don't come easy.

"I have a lot of work to do, and I just have to keep working," he said.

So far, his work ethic and genetics have carried him far. It's going to be fun to see just how much higher the #18 prospect in the country can rise. Stay tuned to Future150 to find out.
