Newburgh, IN (Future150) -- Indiana is a state full of basketball tradition and has produced a lot of top talent over the years. We know about the big names out there, but we sometimes forget about the lower ranked and less publisized but equally talented individuals.
Kyle Aiton (Class of 2013, Castle High School/FHBC Thunder) from Newburgh, Indiana falls into that category, but has since benefited from the Future150 camp. He is now gaining interest from numerous schools.
“The camp got me more exposure,” Aiton advised.
As of now, the 6-foot-2 shooting guard is getting consideration from Jacksonville University, Northern Kentucky, Miami (OH), Belmont, Judson, Chicago, and Hope College.
Aiton also understands when searching for a college, it’s not all about the athletics, but more about academics. He would like to major in sports marketing, sports management, or even accounting.
“I pride myself in doing well in the classroom and want to achieve that at the next level,” he explained.
He is one of the best shooters that the Future150 camp has ever seen and therefore, he was nicknamed “Jimmer.”
“I compare myself to Jimmer Fredette. He has a great jump shot and so do I. Plus, I have the utmost confidence when shooting it,” he proclaimed.
Knowing his strengths, he was quick to additionally report his weaknesses.
“Getting to the basket is something I need improve on,” he quickly replied.
Last season, Aiton averaged 9.8 points per game and only began starting games halfway through the season. He helped lead the Castle High School team during the post-season, going 5-for-9 from behind the arc in the Class 4A North Boys' Basketball Sectional game.
They went on to win the Shelbyville Regional, but unfortunately lost in the Seymour Semi-State game, only one game away from the state title. They had a good run and are ranked No. 9 in the pre-season rankings for next year.
As for now, no visits are planned for him and he has no timetable for a decision, but he plans to attend the Miami (Ohio) Elite Camp on June 22nd. Other than that, he just wants to gain more experience and get exposure.
“I want to use the rest of the summer on the AAU circuit to get as much practice and exposure as I can.”
