HUNTSVILLE, AL (Future150) -- The Columbia High School main gym was packed with family, friends, coaches and every middle school player that fell short of making Huntsville city middle school championship game. Those in attendance were there to watch what most predicted before the season started, a Huntsville MS versus Chapman MS final that would showcase some of the city’s top talent.
Future150 Camp alum John Cole Norris came out in the first quarter in attack mode, scoring 14 of his 18 in the first half, and setting the tone for the dominating performance out on by Huntsville. Scoring the ball on all three levels, Norris used his high basketball IQ to post up smaller defenders when the opportunity arose.
His running mate, Rondell Cole, is simply a man amongst boys. At 6-foot-2, he is a match up nightmare because he uses his strength and athleticism to muscle his way into the lane for easy finishes. Though he plays down low, Cole runs the floor like a wing and has showed that he can knock down the mid-range jump shot.
Norris and Cole are fresh off city championships in football where they received All-City honors as well. As evidanced, Huntsville had a lot of talent with a really good lead guard to manage it in Isaiah Green, who led his team with 23 points after receiving All-City honors. On most nights he is more of a facilitator, but big time players step up in big time games and that is exactly what Green did, using his speed and craftiness around the rim to get him going.
Chapman did not have many bright spots in the game, but one was Brandon Nichols, who led Chapman with 22 points. Woods showed the ability to shoot the ball deep off the dribble. He didn’t need much room to get off a shot and even if he didn’t have any room it was still nothing but net.
William Grace is a very intriguing prospect. At 6-foot-3 he’s a more than reliable shooter that has a lot of upside. He ended the game with 8 points.
