Houston, TX (Future150) -- Houston Hoops DJ  took the win against Beaumont Thunder Elite in the 17U title game at Future150's Houston Battleground Tournament! 2018 6'5" SG Kobe Shorter of Houston Hoops was the star of the 17U division as he dominated on the offensive end all weekend. 2019 6'6" SF Kevin Dotson was super impressive for the Thunder while playing up an age division. His elite size and length on the wing paired with his three-way scoring abilities made him look like a surefire division one prospect!

Future150 Houston Battleground 17U All-Tournament Team:

Keonte Cornelius, 2019 PG, Phoenix Revolution
DJ Edgar II, 2019 PG, Houston Hoops DJ
Kobe Shorter, 2018 SG, Houston Hoops DJ
Emortal Johnson2018 SF, Hoop Nation Family
Kevin Dotson, 2019 SF, Beaumont Thunder Elite

Future150 Houston Battleground 17U Honor Roll:

Kevin Dotson, 2019 SF, Beaumont Thunder Elite (TX): Dotson was playing up an age group throughout the weekend, but you definitely wouldn't have been able to tell. The 6'6" wing forward used his athleticism and three way scoring abilties to dominate many opposing defenders. As good as he was on the offensive end, his versatility on the defensive end was very impressive as well. Don't be shocked when DI schools start ringing off the hook on Dotson's phone soon.

Kile Mingo, 2018 PG, TBTSports Disciples (TX): Mingo was the man for his TBT squad. The ball was always in his hands whenever the Disciples needed a bucket or desperately needed a play to be made to get them out of a funk. During pool play, Mingo had a very clutch game against Texas Inferno when he nailed two straight go-ahead three point baskets to stretch out what had been a tight score for the entire game. If you need a play to be made, the ball should be in his hands.

Kobe Shorter, 2018 SG, Houston Hoops DJ (TX): Shorter has to be the MVP of the 17U division after dominant scoring performances every single game during the weekend. At 6'5" he has elite size for the two guard spot, and he has a beautiful jump shot that was nearly automatic from anywhere on the floor througout the weekend. Shorter listed Louisiana Tech, LSU, Sam Houston State, Texas State, and UTSA among the schools who have been showing interest in him. It's only a matter of time before the offers begin to pour in.

Jacoby Brown, 2020 PG, Hoop Nation Family (TX): Brown had no issues playing up in the 17U division on the weekend as he was arguably the best overall player on his team, despite being two years younger. The 6'2" lead guard is at his best when using his elite ball-handling skills to tear through the defense and get to the rim. But he also showcased his abilitiy to knock down the three pointer off the catch and shoot. Big things in store for this young man.

Emortal Johnson, 2018 SF, Hoop Nation Family (TX): Maybe the best athlete in the entire tournament, Johnson threw down some ridiculous dunks and alley-oops while making it look way too easy. He isn't much of a shooter, but his size, length, athleticism, and slashing abilities has low-major DI written all over him. He definitely deserves a few looks after his performance this weekend.

DJ Edgar II, 2019 PG, Houston Hoops DJ: Edgar was highly impressive with his speed, handles, and court vision in both offensive settings. Even though he may not look like it, Edgar is an extremely strong lead guard as he had no problems playing through contact and finishing around the rim at some tough angles. Cornell is one of the schools who have shown interest in him, and you can expect that list to grow profoundly over the next few months.

Mathew Okoh, 2018 CF, Texas Inferno Red (TX): Okoh is a straight workhorse, that is the best way to describe his entire game. Standing a little over 6'4", he is definitely undersized playing the three and four spot but he didn't let that stop him from having a very productive weekend on both ends of the floor. His footwork and post moves down low were extremely impressive, and he has a shot to be a big time player somewhere in NAIA level.

Keonte Cornelius, 2019 PG, Phoenix Revolution (TX): Cornelius is a high volume shooter that can catch fire on the offensive end in a hurry. During pool play he had a sequence where he scored ten points straight and helped his squad fight back to make it a competitive game the rest of the way. He isn't the most physically imposing guard but his electric scoring and high motor make him look like a great DII prospect with some definite DI potential.

Drew Jones, 2017 PG, Houston HAVOC (TX): The unsigned senior was a scoring machine throughout the weekend. Standing at just 5'8", he doesn't have elite size and doesn't have any flashy skills to his game, but he does know how to put the ball in the basket from all three levels. A ton of his points came from three pointers and mid-range pull ups, but he is definitely capable of slashing the lane and getting the opposing team in foul trouble as well. Jones could be a nice late addition to a DIII/JUCO program.
