Little Rock, AR (Future150) -- This past weekend, the Dallas Mustangs took home the 17U crown at the Real Deal in the Rock tournament. While SG Admon Gilder was the one who dominated headlines, combo-forward Hassan Thomas was instrumental in the Mustangs coming away victorious as well.

Thomas has been picking up some steam on the recruiting trail in the past year, garnering interest from the likes of SMU, VCU, UMass, and USC. Schools who have already offered him include TCU, UTEP, Wyoming, Northeastern, and Cal State-Northridge.  Some schools are recruiting him to play on the wing at all times, while others are looking for him to play more of a stretch-4 role. At 6-foot-7 he is a little undersized, but makes up for it with his quickness; which he uses to blow past bigger defenders.

“I’m just looking for a team that has a great fan base and somewhere I can step in and they will let me play my game,” Thomas said.

He also understands that he has a lot of room to improve, as he said he wasn’t against the idea of redshirting so that he may develop more and become a more efficient player. Few prospects are open to making such a move these days, and Thomas isn’t afraid to make the responsible decision.

Ultimately it will come down to what level he decides to play at. While bigger programs have begun to move in on him, a couple of programs have already done well in recruiting him. Wyoming will most likely be his first official visit, and he plans on hitting their campus right after the July live period. The hometown SMU Mustangs are also interesting to him.

“At SMU, I like how their program is on the rise, and having my sisters close and my family being able to watch me is big,” he said of the Mustangs.

Still, Thomas is adamant that Wyoming will be in the picture for the duration of the process.

“Wyoming is the first school to show me interest, and a friend of mine, Tre Washington, plays there, so they are really interesting to me,”

Look for Thomas to draw even more suitors this spring and summer before taking his officials and cutting things down.
